• It is a platform to share your knowledge. When writing a blog, you can share what you know about a given niche. That helps to elevate you to expert status in your niche.

• It lets your readers and visitors get to know you on a more personal level. Usually, on a blog, you are less formal in your writing than you are on a website. You can share more personal information (with discretion, obviously) and pictures. Even if you are using blogs for business purposes, you should add a touch of "personal-ness" to it.

On your blogs, you should allow people to sign up for email updates, so that they can alerted when you write a new post. That keeps them remembering you and coming back.

If you write an interesting blog that gives people a glimpse into the real person that you are, you are bound to create a following of readers. They will continue to revisit your blogs and may even share them with their friends. This helps get the word out about you and your business.

Using blogs for business has taken some of the "stiffness" out of doing business by allowing others a peek into your life and your thoughts. It can go a long way in getting people to trust you. And when they trust you, they tend to buy from you.

You can promote products on your blogs from time to time, just don't overdo it. Make it your main focus to give good information to your readers, and they will appreciate it.
